What is F.O.G.?
Thank
you for taking the time to visit FogRun.org. I am Kim Cogavin, founder
of the non-profit organization Families & Friends of Children with
Genetic Disorders (F.O.G.) of West Roxbury, Massachusetts. After my son
was diagnosed with a rare genetic disorder, I created non-profit in
order to support research, education and prevention of genetic
disorders. Many families like mine are affected by a rare genetic or
chromosomal disorder and at this time, doctors do not have enough
information.
There
are many, many variations in the types of genetic disorders that can
occur and my son is one of the only documented cases in the world with
his type, which is described as chromosome "6Q24.1-25.1
Deletion". Unfortunately, due to the unknown nature of his case,
doctors are not able to predict what his future might be. At this
moment, he is performing at his age level with some minor developmental
delays, mainly physical. We cannot say with confidence -- and can only
hope -- that this will continue to be the case.
F.O.G.
envisions a time in the not-so-distant future when doctors will have a
great deal of information available on each and every genetic disorder.
They will be able to tell parents symptoms associated with a particular
disorder as well as find a way to prevent genetic disorders
altogether.
Every
day many children are born with genetic disorders. That is why I need
your help to support our various events, such as our Annual Families
& Friends of Children with Genetic Disorders 5k Walk/Run (F.O.G.).
Let's bring awareness to the community and give our kids the best
chance at a normal future!
